Kodály hand signs
John Curwen's signs, as the Kodály method teaches them: each degree has a shape, and the hand rises with the scale — Do at the waist, Do' at the eyes. Play and sign along, or Sing back to hold each note.
Do — A closed fist, held level at the waist.
Re — A flat hand, palm down, slanting up from the wrist.
Mi — A flat hand, palm down, held level.
Fa — A fist with the thumb pointing down.
Sol — A flat hand, palm toward you, held level like a wall.
La — A relaxed hand, palm down, drooping from the wrist.
Ti — A fist with the index finger pointing up and away.
Do' — A closed fist again, held up at eye level.
